Santa Clarita Valley Neighborhoods

Santa Clarita The city of Santa Clarita is the third largest city in Los Angeles County. It is also the 18th largest city in the state of California and continues to grow through new developing communities throughout the Santa Clarita Valley. Santa Clarita is located about 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, and about 50 minutes east of Ventura Beach, making it a convenient location for all types of entertainment and recreational amenities.

Valencia:

This award-winning master-planned community was developed in 1965 by the legendary land planner, Victor Gruen, and serves as a model for other master planned communities throughout the country. Valencia is centrally located within the Santa Clarita Valley and is a popular destination for Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, as well as the Westfield Valencia shopping center with many top rated restaurants, designer shops, and many entertainment venues such as the IMAX theatre. Saugus:

This community within the city limits of Santa Clarita offers river beds with winding canyons throughout the both newer and more established residential neighborhoods. Saugus also offers a variety of dining and shopping venues. It is the location of the old time train stop and restaurant called “Saugus Cafe”, which was established in 1887 and appears to be one of the oldest still operating restaurants in Los Angeles County. Saugus was also the host to what once was a community weekend event with the Saugus Speedway race track and is now the popular Saugus swap meet. This centrally located neighborhood is home to the popular Central
Park, which is known for its summer concert series, sporting events and dog park.

Newhall:

The oldest part of the Santa Clarita Valley, is the town of Newhall which was founded in 1876. It was named after Henry Mayo Newhall, a businessman who made his original fortune during the California Gold Rush. He became a railroad tycoon and later a major investor in real estate and ranching in Los Angeles county. The Placerita Canyon State Park preserves the site of the first documented discovery of gold in California in 1842. Other historic areas in Newhall include Mentryville, which was the state’s first productive oil well and the William S. Hart Park museum, named for the famous actor who had lived in Newhall for many years. Old Town Newhall has been revived recently with redevelopment throughout Main Street and within the surrounding vicinity, including the recently completed largest and most modern community library. Newhall has a mixture of country homes in the Happy Valley area, as well as upscale neighborhoods with custom ranches and estates.

Canyon Country:

The largest of the four primary communities, Canyon Country is located on the east side of the Santa Clarita Valley. This area has a collection of some of the most distinguished estates known as Sand Canyon and is home to the Robinsons Ranch golf course. The newest community within the Santa Clarita Valley, Stevenson Ranch is an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County and not within the city limits of Santa Clarita. Located at the foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains, this upscale community offers a wide variety of housing options from condominiums to large estates incorporating the natural beauty of the surrounding mountain views. Stevenson Ranch has nearby shopping and dining as well an abundance of hiking trails and park-like areas. Castaic:

In the northern part of the Santa Clarita Valley, Castaic was once known as a small highway stopover with restaurants and automobile services for commuters heading towards northern California cities even before the 5 freeway was built. This newer and growing residential community has evolved since the early 1900’s and is located alongside the 5 freeway corridor, just south of the area also known as the Grapevine. With a large man-made damn know as Castaic Lake, this massive recreational area offers boating, fishing, water sports and hiking as well as camping for any outdoor enthusiast. Acton is an unincorporated area outside the City of Santa Clarita. However, it is commonly accepted as the most eastern of the Santa Clarita Valley communities. Located off of the Antelope Valley freeway(SR-14), Acton is encompassed by scenic mountains with lush high desert landscaping throughout this higher elevated area offering all four seasons. There is an assortment of custom homes within this valley with some that are rustic working ranches and others that are contemporary tract home communities with one acre lots zoned for horses with paved roads and mountain views. Acton was known as a historic mining town for its gold, copper and titanium ore, and its western roots continue today in this small rural community.

Val Verde:

This smaller and quaint community is an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County. Val Verde has mostly custom homes and is close in proximity to Castaic. Surrounded by the natural beauty of oak trees and smaller mountains, this community is not far from the 126 highway which leads toward Ventura Beach and the vast farmlands of Ventura County. This community is also known to have a strategic location due to the ongoing master planned community of Newhall Ranch that will ultimately provide additional amenities and infrastructure to this rural part of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Frazier Park:

Located approximately 40 minutes north of the Santa Clarita Valley, Frazier Park is an unincorporated community in Kern County and is one of the mountainous communities of the Tejon Pass. At an elevation of 4,639 feet, Frazier Park is a small town offering scenic beauty and all four seasons. There are custom homes spreading throughout this mountainous community located off the 5 freeway at the grapevine. This area is experiencing some development with the addition of a new industrial park and outlet shopping mall at the bottom of the grapevine off of the 5 freeway.
